Alphie’s Word Game


Man has derived great pleasure from playing games related to languages and it has been common practice to do so for many centuries on end. Many are the different types of word games that have been played from the ancient times and to be able to play with puns, riddles as also double entendres is something that many languages have in common. And, in the present times there have been many boxed language games that deal with making sentences, and also words as well with the letters of the alphabet that have become very popular and the crossword puzzle is certainly a good example with what can be done to make words more exciting.

There are thus quite a few word games to choose from and a good example of a word game is called Alphie’s Word Game which is really a bilingual word game from Canada that has been around since the year 1971 and one would often have seen advertisements for this game in the form of Alphie’s Noodle Soup in which noodles were made to look like the different alphabets and which were presented in the soup itself.

Alphie’s Word Game is basically a word game in which there is a game board that has been made out of cardboard that has as many as one hundred and twenty-one different cells that comprise a matrix made up of eleven rows and eleven columns. In addition, the game requires sixteen squares that are colored red and which have drawings of Alphie in a pattern that is double centric and which is formed around a square that is floral. Each of these squares is used to add up points during the course of playing the game of Alphie’s Word Game.

Also, Alphie’s Word Game requires as many as fifty-two pieces for playing that are each small letter tiles that are shaped in squares and made of cardboard and which has an alphabet letter of black colored that is printed to one side of it. Along with these letters are two tile holders made out of cardboard.

There is also a sheet of paper in which are given instructions in quite some detail which includes some information about how the game set up is and how to use the tile holders. In fact, you will find the illustrations on this sheet very helpful regarding how the game is to be played. To begin the game, one of the players will place the tile with a letter on it on the square on the center of the board and then the second player needs to place his or her tile with a letter on it right next to the tile of the first player in one of two positions which can be either horizontal or vertical. The objective of Alphie’s Word Game is to alternately place tiles with the intention of using the tiles that they have to make crossword words.
