Motocross Madness

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Mud seems to be an important part of a great sports arena as can be seen in this motocross simulator, developed by none other than Microsoft. If you have already seen a commercial for a Super Bowl of motocross, you can get an idea of what this game looks like.

You find masked cyclists in Motocross Madness practically flying through air at great heights, while battling with each other for the first place in the tournament. The wild audience becomes a part of the performance with the motorcyclist waiving both raised thumbs and legs to finally land on the dirt track of the sports arena. Though this is the basic game and routine you find in the game, Microsoft has also added numerous modes to the game. With wonderful terrain graphics, you are sure to enjoy playing a game of Motocross Madness.

Motocross Madness, Motor Sports

You could say that you find two games for you to play in a game of Motocross Madness. The national and supercross races found here are the typical multi lap races you find in both indoor and outdoor arena. The simulations created here add to the thrill of the game as you can’t actually do well in the game, unless and until you have memorized the different tracks found on Motocross Madness.

Then there are the Baja races that you can play where you get to race through not laps, but expansive outdoor environments. The emphasis on these tracks lies more in endurance than speed and is rather entertaining as lots of time is required to complete it. In fact, don’t get surprised to find changes in your standings within the course of a single race.

You have a better chance at winning these races if you have a better understanding of motorcycle mechanics. This is because by making adjustments in shocks, engine and gears you will be able to give your best performance in different environments. However as Motocross Madness does not provide any context for beginners, or any help in tweaking the different elements you come across in the game, some drivers may find the game rather difficult to play.

You actually enjoy Motocross Madness the most in the stunt quarry. The stunt quarry is a mode of the game that provides numerous arenas of sharp rises and valleys where you get to compete with other motorcyclists to do the maximum number of stunts in a fixed period of time. And this is where you get to sample the greatest feature of Motocross Madness; the terrific physics engine found in the bikes.

The engines in the motorbikes provide sufficient realism to look believable, and enough exaggeration to make biking look fun. The only drawback that can be mentioned about this mode is that the stunts that you do here are basically a series of preset button combinations. You gain more or less points depending on how long you actually hold the stunts.

Basically, Motocross Madness would have been better if there was a provision for more freestyle action in the stunts. However you still do get your kicks while going through stunts in stunt quarry. These stunts and the solid graphics of Motocross Madness that require s Direct3D-compatible accelerator to appreciate make Motocross Madness a thrilling game to play.

In addition to this, the lag-free multiplayer racing that Motocross Madness has nothing much for complaints. In a nutshell, Motocross Madness is the game for racing fans looking for means of testing their mettle on the Baja and for the action fans who want to try out some Barneys while careening a few hundred feet in the air.
